Class 2

This week we experimented with using positional language and wrote a description of the route to the park. We then followed our instructions and made note of the things we saw on the way. We explored the park then headed back to class to talk about what was special about our neighrbourhood and the things we could do to make it even better!

On Wednesday it was Roald Dahl Day and we came to school as scientists! We listened to the story of George’s Marvellous Medicine then created some ‘explosions’ of our own! We also wrote our own lists of things we would like include in our own ‘marvellous medicines’. WARNING: Do not try to make George's Marvellous Medicine yourselves at home. It could be dangerous!

Wow! What an exciting 2 weeks we have had to start the new term. We have all been super busy settling into our new classroom and routines. On Tuesday, we went for a walk around the school grounds searching for signs of Autumn. We found some beautiful leaves that we took back to our classroom to sketch.

The Great Outdoors

Now better weather has arrived, we will be making full use of our beautiful school grounds to explore the topic, 'The Great Outdoors'. We will be exploring different materials, both natural and man made in and around the school, through treasure hunts. The children will have the opportunity to observe, sort and classify different materials as well as learnt about their different properties through experiments and design technology. They will be finding out what sort of material makes the best covering for a shelter or den. We will continue to use the forest school for orienteering and mapping activities linked to Geography and Maths.

The St Joseph's Express

Class 2 visited the Olive School in Preston, where we made new friends with the Year One children. We had a lovely, enjoyable morning doing activities together and learning about bullying - we even watched the assembly that the children did all about different kinds of bullying; it was brilliant!
We have started to learn to play the recorder with Miss Hill.  We especially loved playing Ghost in the House - spooky!
