Kidsafe is a specialised child protection programme which is delivered by our fully trained tutor, Mrs Knott, in school.
The Kidsafe programme deals with building children’s confidence, self esteem and equips children with effective skills to deal with unsafe situations. It enables children to value themselves and others and helps children to make wise and healthy choices/decisions in their lives. Kidsafe teaches children to recognise and/or prevent abuse i.e., what is appropriate and what is not appropriate, this is done in an age appropriate, fun and non-scary way through a variety of media including the use of KS the puppet, games, singing and worksheets.
Here at St. Joseph's we have a pupil elected School Council in which there are a boy and girl representative from years 2-6. We meet every 3 weeks to discuss a wide range of topics relating specifically to the children and the life of the school. Each school council representative has an input and also brings with them to the meetings any topics for discussion that their fellow classmates have shared with them.
Some of our recent topics have included raising awareness of World Toilet Day on the 19th of November, linked to our school pairing with a school in Gambia, as well as creating posters to provide children with advice on their roles and responsibilities for the safe use of the internet.
