Religious Education & Catholic Life

At St Joseph’s, our Catholic Life and Mission are at the heart of everything we do. Inspired by our mission “Together we love, learn, follow Jesus,” we strive to create a school where every child knows they are loved by God, valued as a unique individual, and called to live out the Gospel with joy, compassion and courage.

Our Catholic identity shapes the whole life of the school—our curriculum, our relationships, our worship and our service to others. Rooted in the teachings of the Church and guided by the Religious Education Directory, we nurture children who can think deeply, act justly and grow spiritually. Through our RE curriculum, daily prayer, celebrations of the liturgical year and strong partnership with our parish, pupils encounter Christ in meaningful and age‑appropriate ways.

Catholic Life is lived out through our commitment to prayer and liturgy, which follow a rich rhythm across the seasons of the Church. Children experience whole‑school worship, class liturgies, pupil‑led prayer, retreats and opportunities for reflection that help them grow in faith and recognise God’s presence in their daily lives.

Our Mission is also expressed through the way we care for one another. Through our PSHE curriculum and RSE programme, we teach children to build healthy relationships, show respect for all people, celebrate diversity and understand their dignity as children of God. We place a strong emphasis on emotional wellbeing, kindness and resilience, helping pupils to flourish personally, socially and spiritually.

Service is central to our Catholic Life. Inspired by the example of St Joseph and the values of the Gospel, pupils take part in charitable outreach, social action and stewardship of creation. Whether supporting CAFOD, caring for our local community, or participating in parish life, children learn that faith is lived through action.

Our school community is inclusive and welcoming. We celebrate the richness of each child’s background and ensure that all pupils—including those of other faiths—are respected, valued and able to participate meaningfully in school life. Our approach reflects the Church’s call to dialogue, understanding and peace.

Together with our families and parish, we work to form children who are thoughtful, compassionate and confident in their faith—young people ready to make a positive difference in the world so that, in all things, God may be glorified.
