Sports Premium

At St Joseph's Catholic Primary School, we recognise the contribution of P.E. to the health and well-being of the children. We believe that an innovative, varied P.E. curriculum and extra-curricular opportunities have a positive influence on the concentration, attitude and academic achievement of all our children.

What is the Sports Premium?

Since 2013 the Government has supported schools with a Sports Premium Grant designed to help children become, and stay, fit; as well as building sustainable systems for high quality P.E. and wider physical opportunities.

In 2021/2022, school received £16,000 plus an additional payment of £10 per pupil which meant that we received a total of  £16,868. The money can only be spent on sport and supporting the wider remit of physical well-being.

Purpose of the funding

Schools must use the funding to make additional and sustainable improvements to the quality of P.E. and sport they offer but  have the freedom to choose how they do this.

Possible uses of the funding include:

Hiring qualified sports coaches to work alongside primary teachers when teaching P.E.
Provide existing staff with training or resources to help them teach P.E. and sport more effectively
Introduce new sports or activities and encourage more pupils to take up sport
Run sport competitions or run sports activities with other schools
Increase pupils' participation in the School Games
Running lunch clubs promoting at least 30 minutes daily of rigorous exercise.
