This week has been full of curiosity and creativity in Class Kolbe! In RE, we explored the story of the Annunciation and made meaningful links between this event and Old Testament prophecies. The children have shown great insight in their discussions. In science, our focus has been on the movement of the Earth, Sun and Moon. The class has enjoyed discovering how these celestial bodies interact and what this means for day, night and the
seasons. Our geography lessons have taken us on a journey around the globe as we identified the locations of rainforests worldwide. This tied in beautifully with our current science learning about the natural world. Finally, in English, the children have been busy crafting their own versions of The Great Kapok Tree. They have embraced the challenge with enthusiasm and produced some wonderfully imaginative writing. Well done, Class Kolbe, for another fantastic week of learning!

This week in Class Kolbe has been a busy and rewarding one! It was assessment week, and all of the children have worked incredibly hard. They have shown great resilience and enthusiasm, demonstrating the progress
they have made this term. A special mention to our Year 6 pupils, who tackled their first official SATs paper with determination and focus — their effort has been truly commendable. In English, the children have been focusing on the use of inverted commas when blending character action, dialogue, and description, building their skills in writing engaging and well-structured narratives. In RE, we explored the story of Mary and the Annunciation, reflecting on her courage and faith. As we approach the season of Advent, the children have begun preparing our classroom by adding purple liturgical decorations, helping us to reflect the themes of anticipation and hope. All in all, another fantastic week of learning.

What a wonderful week it has been in Class Kolbe: lots of learning, fantastic progress and a lot of fun along the way too. RE wise, we have been exploring women in the Old Testament (Miriam and Esther) and linking these to modern-day inspirational women such as Mother Teressa and Rosa Parks. In English, we have been looking at the use of direct speech when developing characterisation - this has been linked to our text 'The Great Kapok Tree'. Maths wise, Y5 have been looking at square and cube numbers whilst Y6 have been adding/subtracting mixed number fractions. Finally, the children have also been enjoying their PE sessions where they have been focusing on team games such as football. All in all, another great week at St Joseph's.

This week in English, Class Kolbe have produced some truly amazing setting descriptions of the rainforest. The children used powerful vocabulary and vivid imagery to transport readers right into the heart of the jungle — you could almost hear the parrots and feel the damp leaves underfoot! In Maths, Year 5 have been exploring multiples, factors and prime numbers, showing great reasoning and problem-solving skills, while Year 6 have been tackling fractions, comparing and ordering them confidently by looking carefully at denominators and numerators. In RE, we’ve been learning about inspiring women in the Bible, discovering their important roles and the lessons they teach us about faith, courage, and leadership. What a fantastic week of learning and reflection for Class Kolbe!

It has been a lovely start to a new half term in Class Kolbe. In RE, we have been focusing on Remembrance Day ahead of the annual events that take place in the coming days. On Friday, the children were able to put their faith into action by leading Celebration of the Word for their parents- a moving experience. Maths wise, Yr 5 have been focusing on multiples, whilst Yr 6 have been looking at BODMAS - both year groups have done incredibly well this week. In English we are heading off to the Amazon Rainforest as we are studying the Great Kapok Tree: we are only a few pages in but already the children are hooked. All in all, a lovely week and great start to Autumn Two.
