We’ve had a wonderfully full and exciting week in Class Kolbe, with the children showing fantastic effort and enthusiasm across all areas of learning. This week, our English focus was a shared write based on retelling the legendary battle Beowulf vs. Grendel. The children truly impressed me with their powerful descriptive language, vivid imagery and careful attention to sentence structure. Their ability to build suspense and bring scenes to life has been
outstanding. Maths wise, Year 5 have been working on long multiplication, developing confidence in using written methods and checking their answers with accuracy, whilst Year 6 have been exploring algebra, particularly function
machines. Both year groups have worked brilliantly and shown great determination. In RE, we have been reflecting on the passage from John’s Gospel: “I am the Bread of Life.” The children showed deep understanding and
were able to discuss the meaning of Jesus’ words with sensitivity and insight. In addition to this, on Tuesday morning, we were delighted to be joined by Mrs Bridge as we held our class Celebration of the Word. Our prayer leaders
carefully and thoughtfully wrote their own bidding prayers, helping to guide the class in a reflective and meaningful worship. In History, we took a closer look at Alfred the Great, exploring why he was given the title “the Great.” The children enjoyed learning about his achievements and considering what makes a leader truly worthy of such recognition. From legendary battles to algebra, gospel reflections to great kings, Class Kolbe have embraced every challenge with enthusiasm. I am are incredibly proud of them all.

This week in Class Kolbe, the children have been busy across the curriculum. In RE, we have continued exploring Jesus’ miracles: comparing the key messages and symbols found in different stories. In Maths, Year 5 have finally completed their work on fractions and have moved on to multiplication, while Year 6 have been focusing on scale and proportion. In English, we have been learning about different sentence structures—simple, compound and complex—and will be applying this knowledge in our shared write next week. In science, the children investigated how nutrients travel around the body and were particularly interested to learn that fish are the only vertebrates to have a single closed circulatory system. Finally, in worship, we reflected on this week’s Gospel, where Jesus asked his disciples to leave their own lives behind and follow him; a difficult decision, yet one they were all called to make. This led us to think about how God calls each of us in our own lives.

We’ve had a fun and productive week in Class Kolbe, with lots of exciting learning taking place across the curriculum. In RE, the children have been learning about Jesus’ miracles, exploring the stories in detail and discussing
the important messages and meanings behind them. In science, we investigated the impact of exercise on the circulatory system. The children were very engaged and enjoyed learning how physical activity affects the heart and blood flow. In maths, Year 6 have been focusing on ratio, working hard to develop their understanding through a range of problem-solving activities. Year 5 have continued their learning on fractions, showing great perseverance and progress. In English, the children have been thoroughly enjoying our class text Beowulf. They produced some fantastic diary entries, writing from the perspective of Beowulf whilst demonstrating creativity and thoughtful language choices. Well done to all the children for their enthusiasm and effort this week.

We've had a fun-filled week in Class Kolbe. In English, we have been making our way through our text for this half term (Beowulf); the children are well and truly hooked. Each day when we finished out chapter, they are begging for
more which is lovely. This of course has transferred into their learning where they have produced some fantastic pieces of work such as a wanted poster for Grendel focusing on the use of figurative language. In RE, we have been looking at Jesus' miracles and how they confirm that Jesus is both fully divine and fully human. Following on from this, the children produced a piece of artwork focusing on depicting 'Jesus the Miracle Worker'. As you can imagine, each design was truly unique and wonderful. Science was a firm-favourite this week as we created BLOOD -this is part of our circulatory system unit. Once we had created our blood, we used each of our ingredients to explore the role it has in our blood, e.g. marshmallows are white blood cells which help to protect our body from infection and disease. Finally, in History we looked at the AngloSaxon society with a focus on translating Old-English words such as Cwen - queen. Once we had done this, we ordered the society using a pyramid of hierarchy. All in all, another busy and wonderful week in Class Kolbe.
