What an incredible week it has been in Class Kolbe! The children have been working exceptionally hard, showcasing their learning and progress through a range of assessments. It has been truly wonderful to see just how much they are growing day by day, and assessment week has provided a real opportunity for their achievements to shine. In English, we have been diving into the classic poem Macavity: The Mystery Cat. The children have thoroughly enjoyed uncovering the mischievous crimes of the notorious feline and exploring why he is known as the Napoleon of Crime. They each created a fantastic poster focusing on Macavity’s character, making excellent use of figurative language to bring the poem to life. In RE, we have been exploring the connections between the first Adam (from the story of Adam and Eve) and the new Adam (Jesus). The children have truly blown me away with their thoughtful reflections and their ability to interpret scripture with such depth and maturity. It has been a joy to see their enthusiasm, hard work, and curiosity across all subjects this week. Well done, Class Kolbe!

It has been another incredibly busy yet wonderfully productive week in Class Kolbe. We began our week in the most exciting way on Monday as we celebrated World Book Day, with the children arriving in a fabulous array of costumes that truly brought the joy of reading to life. Throughout the day, we explored Anthony Browne’s version of Hansel and Gretel through a variety of engaging activities, including comprehension work, symbol spotting in the illustrations, improving the story’s ending, and even creating our own scenes inspired by the text. We ended the day with a fantastic ‘West End in Schools’ workshop, where the children took part in a range of drama and movement activities. Also this week, we enjoyed a CAFOD workshop that focused on the importance of Catholic social teaching and supporting communities around the world. The children became project managers and thoughtfully decided how they would best use funds to support communities in El Salvador as they face challenges such as crime and limited opportunities. We also had a wonderful PSHE lesson centred on making healthy lifestyle choices and understanding the importance of looking after God’s creation—ourselves. All in all, another great week!

Class Kolbe have had a lovely—though incredibly busy—first week back after the holidays! We have thrown ourselves straight into our new art unit, where the children have been studying Hoghton Tower and exploring how mood and lighting can dramatically change the atmosphere of their artwork. In Maths, Year 5 have been working hard on multiplying fractions, while Year 6 have been developing their understanding of decimals. The highlight of the week for Year 6 was without doubt their exciting trip to London to visit the Houses of Parliament. The children even had the chance to meet Mr Speaker himself and enjoyed a fascinating tour around several parliamentary buildings. It has certainly been a memorable start to the term!

What a wonderful way to close our Spring One term in Class Kolbe! The children have ended the week— and the term—on a real high, showing great effort and enthusiasm across all areas of learning. In history, we concluded our Anglo-Saxons unit by exploring the connections between the Anglo-Saxons and the Scots. The children demonstrated excellent curiosity and engagement as they traced historical links and discussed their significance. In science, we focused on healthy lifestyles and diet as part of our circulatory system unit. The children enjoyed learning how what we eat and how we live impacts our bodies and overall wellbeing. Our mathematicians have been shining this week! Year 5 have been making fantastic progress with division, while Year 6 have been phenomenal with algebra—a real highlight of the week. In English, the children produced independent writing pieces comparing Beowulf to a monster of their own choosing. Their creativity and narrative skills were truly impressive. In Religious Education, we explored the Seven Sacraments and their meaning to Catholics. The children reflected thoughtfully on how these rituals shape Catholic life and practice. It has been a pleasure to see the children finish the term with such positivity, curiosity, and achievement. We look forward to more exciting learning in the next term (and hopefully some nicer weather).
