We've had a fun-filled week in Class Kolbe. In English, we have been making our way through our text for this half term (Beowulf); the children are well and truly hooked. Each day when we finished out chapter, they are begging for
more which is lovely. This of course has transferred into their learning where they have produced some fantastic pieces of work such as a wanted poster for Grendel focusing on the use of figurative language. In RE, we have been looking at Jesus' miracles and how they confirm that Jesus is both fully divine and fully human. Following on from this, the children produced a piece of artwork focusing on depicting 'Jesus the Miracle Worker'. As you can imagine, each design was truly unique and wonderful. Science was a firm-favourite this week as we created BLOOD -this is part of our circulatory system unit. Once we had created our blood, we used each of our ingredients to explore the role it has in our blood, e.g. marshmallows are white blood cells which help to protect our body from infection and disease. Finally, in History we looked at the AngloSaxon society with a focus on translating Old-English words such as Cwen - queen. Once we had done this, we ordered the society using a pyramid of hierarchy. All in all, another busy and wonderful week in Class Kolbe.

It has been lovely to welcome the children of Class Kolbe back, and they have quickly settled into learning after the Christmas holidays. We have had an incredibly productive week across the curriculum. In English, we began our
exciting new unit on legends, focusing on Beowulf, which has already captured the children’s interest. In science, we launched our unit on the circulatory system, and the children were incredibly enthusiastic and eager to learn more about how the body works. In RE, we explored the theme of Epiphany by looking at the meaning behind Jesus’ gifts from the Wise Men and the tradition of chalking the door. Finally, we have started the new year with a big push on reading as 2026 is the National Year of Reading; therefore, we continue to encourage the children to develop a lifelong love of books and reading.

In Class Kolbe, we've had another wonderful week of learning and creativity across all our subjects. In French, we have been exploring how to use colours to describe items of clothing, making sure we choose the correct determiners to match each noun. In Geography, we took a closer look at the layers of the rainforest and tested our knowledge through some team memory games. The class showed fantastic teamwork and enthusiasm as they deepened their understanding of this fascinating biome. In English, we have begun our independent writing for this half term, focusing on a powerful story themed around deforestation. The children are already crafting thoughtful and engaging narratives. In Maths, everyone has continued to work hard on fractions, showing brilliant perseverance as they tackle new concepts. As we head into the final week of term, the Christmas cheer and magic are definitely beginning to spread throughout the school. We're looking forward to a festive and joyful end to a lovely term in Class Kolbe!

This week has been full of curiosity and creativity in Class Kolbe! In RE, we explored the story of the Annunciation and made meaningful links between this event and Old Testament prophecies. The children have shown great insight in their discussions. In science, our focus has been on the movement of the Earth, Sun and Moon. The class has enjoyed discovering how these celestial bodies interact and what this means for day, night and the
seasons. Our geography lessons have taken us on a journey around the globe as we identified the locations of rainforests worldwide. This tied in beautifully with our current science learning about the natural world. Finally, in English, the children have been busy crafting their own versions of The Great Kapok Tree. They have embraced the challenge with enthusiasm and produced some wonderfully imaginative writing. Well done, Class Kolbe, for another fantastic week of learning!

This week in Class Kolbe has been a busy and rewarding one! It was assessment week, and all of the children have worked incredibly hard. They have shown great resilience and enthusiasm, demonstrating the progress
they have made this term. A special mention to our Year 6 pupils, who tackled their first official SATs paper with determination and focus — their effort has been truly commendable. In English, the children have been focusing on the use of inverted commas when blending character action, dialogue, and description, building their skills in writing engaging and well-structured narratives. In RE, we explored the story of Mary and the Annunciation, reflecting on her courage and faith. As we approach the season of Advent, the children have begun preparing our classroom by adding purple liturgical decorations, helping us to reflect the themes of anticipation and hope. All in all, another fantastic week of learning.

What a wonderful week it has been in Class Kolbe: lots of learning, fantastic progress and a lot of fun along the way too. RE wise, we have been exploring women in the Old Testament (Miriam and Esther) and linking these to modern-day inspirational women such as Mother Teressa and Rosa Parks. In English, we have been looking at the use of direct speech when developing characterisation - this has been linked to our text 'The Great Kapok Tree'. Maths wise, Y5 have been looking at square and cube numbers whilst Y6 have been adding/subtracting mixed number fractions. Finally, the children have also been enjoying their PE sessions where they have been focusing on team games such as football. All in all, another great week at St Joseph's.
