Another fantastic week in Class Acutis! The highlight has been a visit from Mr Singleton, who talked to the children all about the charity HCPT and his experiences making the pilgrimage to Lourdes. The children were fascinated
and especially loved the song at the end. They are excited about sending some work to Mr Singleton's school and sharing learning between schools. We also shared our weekly class Celebration of the Word with Mrs Bridge in the
chapel. The children enjoyed reflecting on how we could shine out light to the world and follow in Jesus ' footsteps. They marked out a pathway of light to different crosses in the chapel using tealights to focus on following God's path in all they do. In Maths this week Year 2 have been getting to grips with concept of multiplication and will be hot on the heels of Year 3 and 4 with rapid recall of times tables facts. In English we have come to a very exciting part of our class novel The Firework-Makers Daughter which has inspired some great ideas for direct speech in the children's writing. In PE we are focusing on Boccia and the children are having great fun learning about the rules of the sport and developing sportsmanship. Last Friday we had a hugely enjoyable lesson and I can 't wait to see what this week brings.

There have been so many success stories in Class Acutis this week! Every morning begins with children asking me if they can quiz and change their reading book and Year 4 children often complete a lesson on Reading Plus too.
This is in addition to the children writing out their weekly spellings and all before 9am! In preparation for our class liturgy, the children have thought about the blessings they have in their lives making links with the Beatitudes.
They have learned a beautiful hymn which they were looking forward to sharing with parents. They have developed this by making links with our RE topic and learning more about the work of HCPT and are looking forward to
welcoming a special visitor next week to find out more about this charity. In Maths, Year 4 have started to do mock Times Tables Tests on the iPads and are showing excellent rapid retrieval skills! Year 2 loved learning how to use
number lines to solve problems involving subtraction. Year 3 have had to grapple with the tricky skill of multiplying a 2 digit number by a 1 digit number and are making huge strides with their understanding. In English we are getting
deeper into our class novel and the children wrote some excellent setting descriptions including noun phrase, similes and time adverbials. They are all working their socks off! Well done everyone.

Another fantastic week has come to an end in Class Acutis. A highlight for me has been seeing the beautiful artwork the children have created in RE whilst learning about the healing miracles of Jesus. Many people have commented on how beautiful the work is and also how meaningful the titles are that each individual piece has been given. In maths we have continued embedding times table knowledge and Year 2 are roaring ahead with the 5x table. Year 3 and Year 4 have had some difficult concepts to grapple with and have realised how useful it is to have rapid recall of key number facts. We have started our new text in English - The Firework-Maker's Daughter. The setting from a different culture has really grabbed the children's interested and they have produced some very descriptive writing of the main character Lila. In science I set the children a challenge to find out about what is inside a lightbulb after learning about Thomas Edison's work on inventing a lightbulb - is bamboo still used? In spellings, we are a week behind the grid that has been sent out via School Spider.
Thank you as always for your support.

This week seems to have flown by! The prayer and liturgy leaders started their week by preparing a wonderful liturgy which they led in the newly decorated chapel and we also had our first session of meditation. At both times the
children felt a calmness and showed a deep level of spirituality. Lots of children commented on how much they enjoyed both sessions. We have had a big focus on times tables in math's this week. Year 2 have been applying their
knowledge of counting in 2s, 5s and 10s in the context of money, Year 3 have been working on the 4x and 8x tables and Year 4 have been multiplying twoand-3-digit numbers. In English, the children finished their onomatopoeic
poems with some superb results. We started our new units in French, History and Science and finally finished our art work inspired by the work of Paul Cummins and Kara Walker. The work the children have produced is incredibly
creative and to a very high standard. No wonder the days have passed quickly- Class Acutis hasn't stopped!

It has been so lovely to see the children again and to hear about their Christmas celebrations. They all seem to have grown so much in two weeks! We have started the new year as we mean to go on - in amazing style.
Although the decorations may have disappeared, we discussed how the Christmas period is only just coming to an end with the celebration of Epiphany. The children thought deeply about what they would say to the baby
Messiah and then moved on to imagine what gift would be suitable and helpful for a Messiah born in 2026. In maths, the children in Year 2 have continued to investigate the properties of 3D shapes, while in Year 3 and Year 4
the focus has been on multiplication and division. We have continued with the genre of poetry in English but this time focusing on onomatopoeia which has been really fun. In art we are nearing the end of a topic which is inspired by the work of Paul Cummins and the children have been learning how to show tone through collage - the results are fantastic. This week has also been the first session of Forest School, please ensure your child is suitably dressed on Thursdays so they can get the full enjoyment from this session. Finally I wish you all a happy new year and many thanks for your continued support.
