It was lovely to see so many of you at Parent' s Evening on Monday night and have the opportunity to share with you the wonderful work the children have been producing. The class have been working hard on their assessments this week which can be quite a challenge, but they have approached them with a great attitude. There has been a flurry of excitement after I gave them their new ZPD ranges for Accelerated Reader, with lots of smiles as the children realised what great progress they have made. In RE the children have written some wonderful Lenten Promises. I really loved how different they all were. We have been busily preparing to welcome the local community into school to join us in the stations of the cross and are still really enjoying the daily Lent meditations from Open for Lent. In DT the children have evaluated their automaton prototypes in preparation for planning their final product later in the term. Don't forget to enter the Easter Garden competition or send in any spare change for the Lent Coin Battle - we have had lots of donations already so thank you, as always for your continued support.

This week has flown by! We had an exciting start with our World Book Day celebrations, the children looked great and were very enthusiastic during the drama workshop. I could definitely spot some future performers! On Monday we were also lucky enough to have a lesson from Mrs Fordyce on how CAFOD is helping around the world and how we can join in too. This linked perfectly to our work in RE which this week was based around The Parable of the Nations. The children also enjoyed the visit from Pat Peel and were very excited to invite her to join our daily meditation using the Open for Lent resource. In PE the Year 4 children have taken to their swimming sessions like ducks to water, meanwhile Year 2 and Year 3 have demonstrated how far their team building skills have come as part of our unit on OOA. We also checked in with our automaton prototypes and did some problem solving. The children know what their next steps need to be. These are just the highlights - no wonder the week has flown!

I said to the children this week how much I look forward to seeing them each morning, it really is true, they are a credit to you all. This week in RE we have been looking closely at the Parable of the Prodigal Son. The children have enjoyed working out why I have put certain objects in the golden box. We have also started to study fables in English. Sometimes the morals can be tricky to work out, but the children are enjoying the simplicity of the genre. Year 2 have absolutely smashed their maths this week - they have done work on the ten times table and are very confident. Let them show you at home! I was amazed at how the children worked during DT this week. One adult with 31 children creating prototype automatons successfully requires a lot of teamwork and yet it worked! Thank you as always for your continued support.

What a wonderful half term it has been in Class Acutis. We have had so many wonderful people contribute to the children's learning in the last six weeks, especially Miss Omer. Sadly, we will have to say goodbye to Miss Omer on Friday but are excited to welcome back Miss Kantharia after half term. The week started with a special celebration of the word about CAFOD from Mrs Fordyce. The children are always enthusiastic about raising money for those in need. We also had a special message from Mr Singleton on Wednesday for the feast day of Our Lady of Lourdes. In R.E. this week the children have learned about The Nicene Creed, what it means and why it is so important to us. In maths, Year 3 have been looking carefully at units of measurement for length and have had to be very careful when measuring with their rulers - a tricky skill! Year 2 have made a great start on their times table journey
and worked really well with Mrs Murray, who has brought back some fantastic ideas from a training afternoon. I have downloaded the heatmaps from TTRS for Year 4 and the results are looking good - keep the hard work up Year 4! In English we have come to the end of our unit on The Firework-Maker's Daughter and the children have planned and written some excellent continuations of the story. They have used noun phrases, direct speech, fronted adverbials and cursive handwriting. We will finish reading the original version after half term. The children also proved their understanding of their history topic by comparing different Ancient Civilisations in terms of farming, buildings, writing and trade. On Monday they impressed a visiting sports coach with their knowledge of Boccia. He noted how developed their skills were, proving a little bit of practise each week can have an impact! All this learning, plus a school disco - the children will be ready for a rest! Thank you as always for your continued support and enjoy the break.
